Oliver Hervir conducted an Advanced Studies Course (ASC) as a part of his PhB degree with the battery group in 2021. His research topic was studying dual-carbon batteries, which are a type of dual-ion batteries that use graphitic electrodes as both anode and cathode materials in the cell. As a result of the experimental studies, energy and power density metrics were established for this interesting battery type.
The outcomes of the ASC project were recognised by the Global Undergraduate Awards, which is an international student competition in Dublin, Ireland. Oliver’s Highly Commended project is ranked within top 10% of all projects in the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences category.
