Australia is leading the world in the deployment of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and particularly Distributed Photovoltaic systems (DPV). As DER deployment continues, new challenges and opportunities are emerging for managing power system security during major disturbance events. Data driven understanding of DER behaviour in the field is becoming increasingly important to validate modelling and support operational decision making.

Project MATCH (Monitoring and Analysis Toolbox for Compliance in a High DER future) is a three-year ARENA-funded project that is being led by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in partnership with the Australian Energy Market Operator and Solar Analytics. Through collaboration with stakeholders across the industry, the project aims to investigate measures required to operate safe, secure and reliable power systems with high levels of DER.

This presentation will provide a progress update on the DER datasets analysed to date and tools under development.

Format:
  • 5 min welcome and introduction
  • 30 min presentation
  • 15 min facilitated Q&A.
About the speaker

Naomi Stringer is a Research Associate in the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering (SPREE) and Collaboration on Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM) at UNSW. Naomi holds a Bachelor and PhD in Renewable Energy Engineering from UNSW. Naomi’s doctoral research focused on the integration of DER in the electricity sector, entitled ‘Navigating decentralisation: data driven analysis of DER and a framework for their integration into the electricity industry’. Prior to undertaking her PhD, Naomi worked as a consultant with AECOM. Naomi is currently leading Project MATCH.
